School news - weeks beginning 27th May, ending 7th June

CNS Summer fete

The dog show has now been postponed until the autumn term when we hope to incorporate it as a feature in our new, bigger fun pet show.  By popular request we will now be offering a car boot and tabletop sale area.  If you would like to book either a car boot pitch or a table at £5.00 each, please register your interest with the school office or by emailing cnsa@cnsmail.org.

If you are looking for things to do over half term, why not have a clear out of old uniform and books?  And if the weather improves enough to get into the garden, we are also looking for plant donations.  Please let us know if you are able to contribute to the fete in this way (contact details as above).

Message from Mr.Nixon

It is always an emotional day when year 11 and year 13 students leave the school and this year will be no different.  I was chatting to some year 11 students a few days ago who were saying how they loved CNS and didn't want to leave.   One thing that struck me was the way they talked about being cared for and how staff would do anything for them.  I thought that this was very special, particularly in these days when there is a huge amount of pressure on young people (all of us for that matter) to perform at the very highest standard.  It would be all too easy for that care and attention to be lost and it is important that never happens.

The students were all very keen to come back into the CNS sixth form, which again I was very pleased to hear; given the amount of choices they have.  This loyalty is built up over many years through experiencing the culture of our school, the pastoral care as well as the teaching and learning.  I enjoyed every second of the memorable conversation; it was a real pleasure and privilege to be able to have these discussions.

Shortly after half term we are holding an evening for the parents of current year 6 students who will be joining us in September.  This is the beginning of their association with CNS and our aim is that they will be saying the exact same thing in the future about CNS as the students were earlier this week.

I hope everyone has a good half term.

Jim Nixon

The tests will be 45 minutes long and will consist of structured questions and there is no choice of questions. Students should bring along a pen, pencil, calculator etc.
Students will not be externally examined until May/June 2014.  All students were provided with a revision guide and this covers the content of all six modules which make up the GCSE Biology, Chemistry and Physics course. The first three modules e.g. C1, C2 and C3 are examined in one and the second three modules e.g. C4, C5 and C6 are examined in one paper.   A teacher assessed piece of Controlled Coursework will make up the full assessment.

Blakeney House Leader

May I take this opportunity to thank Tom Pinnington for the fantastic work and commitment he has given to all the students and their families in Blakeney House. Tom has achieved a well-deserved promotion to Assistant Headteacher at Broadland High School and begins his new role on June 3rd. I am sure everyone will support me in saying that Tom will be greatly missed, not only in his role as House Leader but also as a brilliant teacher and we all wish Tom well in his exciting new role.

For the remainder of this term Sam Ray, currently Deputy House Leader, will be acting House Leader for Blakeney and Emma Blackburn, currently Head of Year 13, will be acting Deputy House Leader; Jane Allen will remain as Pastoral Manager. From today can any queries or concerns regarding Blakeney students please be referred to s.ray@cns-school.org or e.blackburn@cns-school.org as messages will not be received if sent to Mr Pinnington’s email. From September 2013 Mr Andrew Innes will be joining the school as House Leader for Blakeney and Sam Ray will return to her role as Deputy House Leader.
