Message from Headteacher Jim Nixon

Welcome back to the new school year. I hope that your children have made the most of a beautifully warm and sunny break. At the start of a new school year, I always look forward to welcoming the new Year 7 and 12 students to CNS and catching up with the many students returning after their holiday.

For our new students, the daunting prospect of getting lost and arriving late to lesson has been greatly reduced by the huge amount of support that staff and existing students have offered in guiding them in the right direction. This goes to show what a great community we have at CNS and helps the students to know that they are welcomed and cared for by us all.

We look forward to a very positive and successful year.

 Jim Nixon

We Will Rock You
CNS trip from summer term, written by Ilke Swanepoel

On Thursday July 11th the cast of the 2013 CNS Musical ‘Schools Will Rock You’ spent the afternoon and evening at the Dominion theatre in the West End watching ‘We Will Rock You’.

Having 46 students attending the trip and sharing one coach, we made the journey more bearable by entertaining the staff with our renditions of Queens greatest hits! The cast and I were buzzing with excitement from the minute we got on the coach, to the end, when we arrived at school at 1:30am!

We had already rehearsed a couple of times before watching the show but the staff had decided to take us onto this trip so that we were able to observe how our characters were played by the professionals. This gave us an opportunity to learn new things about our characters and with our improved perceptions of the characters we hope to impress with our own performances in December. By going on this trip, although intimidated by the amazing works of the professionals, we are more excited than ever to get on with our own production.

I found the performance that we watched to be exceptional and was quite astonished to find a few of the leads were understudies. Throughout the duration of the musical, students were interacting with the actors when needed to and were emotionally attached from beginning to end. The cast are now looking forward to working together during the first term back. We are also excited to put our own ideas into the play and make it spectacular and fun to watch. I would like say a huge thank you, on behalf of the cast to all the staff that came on the trip and that are currently helping us to make our musical, we all appreciate your effort and dedication towards this.
