School News - week beginning 24th October

Message from the Headteacher

On Thursday we are being visited by Ian Seath (HMI) from Ofsted; it was Ian who carried out a monitoring visit last term and wrote our report.  We will not receive a written report from this visit. It is likely that he will do some paired lesson observations, a learning walk, look at our results data and meet different groups of people.  We will use his informal feedback to continue to improve the school.

Christine Cook
Sadly some of you may be aware that Chris Cook lost her battle against cancer last Friday. Chris had worked at CNS for 10 years within both the SEND and behaviour teams. She will be missed by students and colleagues alike. Chris will be remembered for her quiet support of students and always seeing the positive in everyone.  She was passionate about helping students at difficult times in their life in whatever way she could, an aspect which we truly admired in her.  Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Chris at this time.

It sometimes takes the recent tragic events that have befallen two of our staff to put things into perspective.  We live life fast and are always busy.  I don’t know if it is just a trait of the European lifestyle, as my week in Kenya a few years ago showed me a very different, more sedate pace of life. It is all too easy when dealing with the day to day smaller aspects of life to forget what really counts.  Whilst being in a long queue at the supermarket, stuck in a traffic jam or caught in a heavy downpour are all very irritating, meanwhile, someone is dealing with what is possibly a life-threatening crisis.  I have heard it said that many people who  have had  a brush with death comment on how much more they appreciate the smaller things in life, those that went unnoticed before.

Doing well is important; working hard should be a part of every-day life. Your loved ones are, to my mind, the most important part of your life as is keeping things in perspective.  I will try and remember my own words as I drive home tonight!

I wish you all a relaxing weekend.

Jim Nixon
