Scary Soundtracks!
Over the last fortnight, Mr Seal’s Year 9 English class have been creating radio dramatisations of sections from Edgar Allan Poe’s short story “The Tell Tale Heart” as part of a unit on Gothic Literature. We’d like to invite you to listen to their rather unsettling creations, all of which are here for you to enjoy. Click on the link below to listen to six gruesome minutes of haunting readings and dramatic sound effects. https://soundcloud.com/cnsmedia/sets/cns_telltaleheart
Warning: There are some surprisingly effective sounds here, such as those made by smashing a breadstick with a piece of celery (crunching bones!) and the tiny tapping of paperclip fingernails across a tabletop (mouse footsteps have never sounded so unsettling).
Message from Mr Nixon
As I drove into school this week there was an article on the radio about it being the 20th anniversary of the first ever text being sent that simply said "Happy Christmas". How life has changed since. Texts, emails and twitter etc. we never seem to tire of different ways of writing and communicating with people. Yet it saddens me that as a society, the skills and pleasures of handwriting have, by some, been pushed to the background. I believe in the basics; using a pen and pencil to write and draw. In my early years, I loved handwriting letters using a fountain pen on high quality writing paper. In this day and age there is something quite special about receiving a hand written letter especially when it is a personal note or one which is appreciative of something you have done or said.
At CNS we will continue to raise standards in a way that will leave a lasting foundation for our students and the school. This means doing the basics well, working hard to capture and appreciate all the excellence that is already in our school and supporting those who need that extra bit of help.
I would like to offer a warm welcome to our new Parent Governor; I received one nomination for the vacancy on the Governing Body and I therefore declare that Jan McAllister is duly elected as Parent Governor
