CNS success at National Kids' Lit Quiz Final
The adventure started back in November. On the 26th of November CNS hosted the regional heats of the Kids' Lit Quiz, an annual competition which has put the literature knowledge of 10 to 13-year-olds to the test for two decades.
Our school put forward eight students: Hannah Bradfield; Emma Cartner; Flora Kernan; Leila Hooton; Lucy Rodd; Kara Kordtomiekel; Tom Hunter and James Leney, split into A and B teams. They competed against 23 other teams, drawn from 13 schools, over 10 rounds devised by quizmaster Wayne Mills on subjects including trees, teens and characters.
Taking third place on the day was Northgate High, Taverham High School came second and our own B Team romped to victory!
On the 2nd of December the CNS B Team (Leila Hooton, Flora Kernan, Tom Hunter and James Leney) travelled to Coventry with Miss Blackburn, Miss Ennew and Mrs Elibol for the national final, with Emma Cartner as substitute. 16 teams from across the UK took part at the University of Warwick, some travelling from as far as Northern Ireland and the highlands of Scotland!
The questions on the day were challenging, with 5 tense rounds full of questions far more testing than the regional heats but the team managed to take a very respectable third place, losing out only to the City of London School for Girls, who came in second, and George Watson's College who will fly to New Zealand for the world finals.
The quiz was a great experience for all involved, with the CNS team getting the chance to meet authors such as Celia Rees and be introduced to a range of new books.
The team would like to thank Miss Blackburn, Miss Ennew and Mrs Elibol for accompanying and supporting them, Mr Nixon for sponsorship, Mrs Brodie for all her help and hard work, Emma for being a great reserve member and all of the other teachers who helped.
