- 21/5/12 Year 13 Study leave starts.
Silver Duke of Edinburgh
All Silver Duke of Edinburgh students have now completed
their first Expedition in Norfolk. Organised by Norfolk County DofE, groups
have coped with cold, extreme wetness and a variety of navigational challenges
helping teamwork skills improve. In June and July, Practice and
Assessed Expeditions in the Peak District should hopefully lead to the
completion of this section of the Award.

Message from Mr Nixon
Over the past few weeks I have been
heavily involved with interviews for a wide range of roles ranging from
classroom teacher to Curriculum Leader.
We put candidates through their paces during the day. They teach a lesson that is observed then analysed
and scrutinised in a later interview (it has to be graded at least “good”), do
a tour of the school (with feedback from the students) carry out various tasks,
go through a series of focused interviews, complete a learning walk (for
curriculum or subject leaders), sit through an intense professional interview
and arguably the most challenging of them all, the student panel. Regardless of the post the same principles
always apply. Firstly they have to be good teachers and relate well to students. They must also show that they can manage the
balance between good relationships with students and rigour in lessons.
I always say to teachers that they are
role models and that students will remember them for many years to come. At my eldest son’s 21st birthday
dinner one of the main topics of discussion was the teachers that taught them
both at Primary and Secondary school.
The stories flowed and I am sure there were some ears burning around the
county! I can remember the really good
teachers that I had when I was at school (going back a number of decades now)
and I can also remember the ones that were not good. I am sure anyone reading this article will
easily remember good and bad role models.
As adults we are all role models and it is up to us which one we are:
good or bad.
