WORK EXPERIENCE 2013

Year 10 students will be attending work experience placements from   15 July – 24 July 2013.  Full details have been sent home this week and students should be thinking about what type of placement they would like and which employers they wish to approach.
It is up to students to arrange their own placement but there will be plenty of assistance available from Mrs Edwards (Work Related Learning Co-ordinator) and Form Tutors. Students may call in to see Mrs Edwards in the Student Services Office during any break or lunchtime.
A copy of the ‘Contacting Employers’ pamphlet and the Self-Generated Placement form for completion by parents/carers and employers can be found by students in the Work Related Learning area under ‘Classroom’ on the School Gateway.
Look out for the photo displays of last year’s placements in the corridor by Room 4 for ideas.
Competition for placements is fierce and students should be contacting employers NOW!
Parents – if you or your employer can help by offering a work experience placement to one of our students then please contact Suzanne Edwards, Work Related Learning Co-ordinator 01603 274066 s.edwards@cns-school.org  Thank you!

CNSA News

The City of Norwich School Association (CNSA) has a number of events planned for the autumn term in which we hope that you will be involved, either as a helper or a supporter. Dates for your diary until half term are:
  • The PTA-UK workshop on Wednesday 26 September from 7-9pm in the Dining Hall.. This will be led by our PTA-UK regional representative, Alison Allen, and will look at secondary school fundraising ideas plus anything else we want to discuss. Parents/carers from other secondary schools in the area will be coming along so it will be a great opportunity to hear about other school associations and pool ideas as well as to meet other CNS parents and carers.
  • The Fun Pet Show on Friday 28 September from 6 – 8pm in the Arc. This is a CNS favourite and this year will have some new categories. See details below.
  • The AGM scheduled for Monday 8 October when we will need to elect a new committee. All of the positions are currently vacant so if you would like to stand for an officer role (chair/vice chair/ treasurer/secretary) please contact the school office for further information.
  • The year 7 disco on Thursday 25 October in the Arc. Details to follow in later editions of the e-Echo.
If you wish to attend any of the above events or can offer your help please contact Alison Coyle at alisoncoyle@btinternet.com or call her on 01603 250135.

Message from Mr Nixon

We are currently searching for external personnel who are qualified to run our very successful Duke of Edinburgh scheme.  We were unfortunate to lose the 3 staff running this scheme at CNS, especially as some were close to the resignation date; this left us in a difficult position.  Should you know of anyone who may be interested can you please contact the school through the main office?  Our excellent students really value this experience.  Main office – 01603 274000.

It is around this time of year that many of our former year 13 students will be leaving home and going off to University.  It is a big yet exciting step and one that has been earned.  It is very pleasing to note that a large percentage of our students gain places in the Russell Group of Universities with 4 students recently going to Oxbridge.

Going onto higher education is as much about meeting new people, maturing and developing as it is academic learning.  I often look back on my own experiences – yes ok, many years ago now! and think of the people that I was fortunate enough to meet and get to know.  Most names are forgotten but there are some individuals who I think of regularly; as they played a very special part in my life. Then and to this day, they remain a huge influence on me.

You are never sure what lies ahead?  Yet what we are today is influenced by the past.
